Majors and Careers

It is not uncommon for students to have questions about major selection and career choices! Our peer advisors and career counselors are available to assist you in the career development process. We begin by exploring your interests, strengths and values with you. We can help you explore majors and careers, give you some ideas about networking with professionals in your chosen field, and assist you in developing an academic and career action plan.

Career Assessment and Counseling

We offer career assessment and counseling to assist you with career planning and the job search process. If you are interested in clarifying your career goals, exploring career options or evaluating occupational settings, schedule an appointment through Handshake or call (407)823-2361 to meet with a career counselor.

Some of the assessments that we administer and interpret include the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, Motivated Skills, and Values Card Sort, and My Plan.

Informational Interviews

Informational interviews are a great way to speak with professionals in career field you are considering. The purpose of an informational interview is to gain first-hand knowledge about a specific occupation. When you talk with individuals at their work places, you can ask a variety of questions. These can help you get a “feel” for the work environment, the tasks associated with the occupation, as well as its rewards and limitations.

Contact us to access the UCF Alumni Mentoring Program. Use personal contacts made through networking activities such as career fairs, conferences, and student organization events. Use personal contacts such as family, friends, faculty members, and community acquaintances.

Schedule your interview for approximately 20-30 minutes. Wear business casual attire and conduct yourself in a professional manner. Always follow up with a thank you note; this could be the first contact you make in your new career.

Job Shadow Program

The Job Shadow Program pairs UCF students with employer/alumni partners to facilitate a one to five day job shadowing experience. Learn about a particular career or industry, gain workplace experience, and build your professional network.
