Are You Ready to Land Your Next On-Campus Job?

The Work Where You Learn Fair is just around the corner and the best way to stand out is to show up prepared. Whether it’s crafting a polished resume, practicing your elevator pitch, or knowing where to search for open roles, we’ve got you covered. Below are some essential tips, tools, and resources to help you get ready, feel confident, and make the most of the day. Let’s get to work!

Prepare Your Elevator Pitch

At the Work Where You Learn Fair, you’ll meet potential campus departments face-to-face so it’s important to have a strong introduction ready. A well-prepared elevator pitch is a brief, 30–60 second summary of who you are, what you’ve done, and what you’re hoping to do. It helps you make a great first impression and confidently express your goals.

Use the Present – Past – Future formula to guide your pitch:

Present – Who are you and what are you doing now?
Share your name, year, and major.
Example: “Hi, my name is Jane. I’m a junior majoring in Psychology.”

Past – What experience or skills do you have?
Mention something you’ve done that relates to the type of job you’re seeking.
Example: “I recently worked as a peer mentor, where I supported students and organized campus events.”

Future – What are you looking for?
Explain what you hope to gain and why you’re interested in a specific role.
Example: “I’m looking for an on-campus job where I can grow my communication and leadership skills while supporting other students.”

A strong elevator pitch shows employers you’re prepared, professional, and motivated. For extra guidance, check out the LinkedIn Learning course Developing Your Authentic Elevator Pitch.
