CAREER FOUNDATIONS SYLLABUS STATEMENT

Syllabus statements for each designation are provided below. Areas indicated in [bold] must be revised to reflect the course information. Once revised, the updated statement must be included in the course designation application.

Career Foundations Syllabus Statement (Required for Approved CAREERFDN Courses):

[Insert course name and number here] is designated by [University/Department name] as a Career Foundations (CF) course. Career Foundations courses provide students with career readiness skills through activities designed to engage students in career preparation and self-development, helping students build a basic understanding of career planning and professional growth. To receive the CF designation, a course must center career readiness in its syllabus with well-defined objectives that align meaningfully with career exploration assignments. Bringing career readiness from the peripheral to the fore distinguishes CF courses from others that may contain similar elements.  If students have any questions about this designation or CF designation at UCF, please contact career@ucf.edu.

Our Career Foundations (CF) learning in this course will involve [insert career readiness assignments, e.g. an informational interview, career self-assessment, written reflection paper, creative presentation, etc.]. This will allow students to reflect on career and/or academic interests and goals related to the course objectives and participate in class activities and assessments that are designed to help them make progress in their career planning. If any student has a concern with a proposed CF assignment or activity, they must inform the instructor during the first week of class or before the drop/add deadline to discuss options.
